It is a truth universally acknowledged (well at least in my family) that my Aunt Robbin is the best cook around town. She is currently putting together a family cookbook and today I pulled out our old one – like 15 years old – cookbook.

I found this delectable and decadent cookie recipe. It is to die for!

Here we go – the ingredients and easy copy/paste recipe are at the bottom of the post.

Stir together flour cocoa, salt, baking powder, and baking soda (aka the dry ingredients).

Cream together butter and sugar, add egg and vanilla. Check.

Gradually add dray ingredients to creamed mixture. Definitely do this gradually because I got cocoa all over everything. (I’m a little impatient – tee hee)

You will get a really thick, dark brown delicious dough. (Not that I tried it or anything)

Shape into balls and place on ungreased cookie sheets. You know how much I hate touching things like this, but it wasn’t too bad.

Press down center of each cookie with thumb. (or forefinger if you are trying to take a picture)

Drain cherries; reserve the juice.

Don’t forget to take off the stems.
DSC_0011

Place a cherry in center of each cookie.
DSC_0017

In small pan, combine chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk.
DSC_0020

Heat until chocolate is melted. Then stir in 4 tsp of cherry juice.
DSC_0022

You will get a nice, thick sauce. I think this would make great hot fudge as well. If you want it a little bit thinner, then go on and add a little bit more cherry juice.
DSC_0024

Spoon about 1 tsp of frosting over each cookies, spread to cover cherry. Yes, you frost them before you bake them. And no, I don’t usually use a 1 tsp measuring spoon, but I have to do one so that I can eyeball the rest of them.
DSC_0026

I’m sure there are many talented people out there who can make these look pretty, but I ain’t one of um.
DSC_0027

Bake at 350 degrees fro 10 minutes. Let the cookies sit on the sheet a few minutes before you remove them.
DSC_0028

You will get about 28 cookies with cherries and 4 without cherries. I frost the ones without cherries and eat them just as they are. Delish!
