in Leaving Stepford,Thoughts

While in Florida, we got to go to The Kennedy Space Center.  My aunt works for the company that makes the booster rockets on the shuttles and some other rockets.  I don’t really understand.  But anyways, she got us passes to go on a really cool bus tour of the NASA buildings.  While I took a massive amount of pictures of everything – here are just a very few.

This is a classic picture of my dad.  We were inside a former space shuttle and my dad is pointing to something.  He does extensive research before going anywhere and likes to share with all of us.  And he is a pointer.  He wants to make sure that you see everything.  I love it!  It makes me laugh every time I catch him doing this.

We went with my Aunt Kay and my Uncle Bob.  They are like my parents and didn’t like posing for pictures, so I had to sneak a few like this.

This is in front of the Kennedy Space Center.  I have  a picture of us posing, but I liked this one because we are all laughing.  Oh, this is me, my mom, and my dad, by the way.

On our bus tour we got to get about 1 mile away from the shuttle.  I was awesome to be that close.  The shuttle goes on the launch pad about 1 month before the scheduled launch, so if you ever go for a tour, try to put it close to a launch.

Here is a closer view of the shuttle.  You can’t see the Endeavor because it is on the back side.  The big orange thing is the main engine and the two white ones on the side are the boosters.  That is what my aunt does.  Puts together the boosters or something.

This is me (duh!) in front the the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB).  This is where they put the shuttle on the boosters and main engine.  It is huge.  That flag is the size of a basketball court.  I’m actually pretty far away from it.  And my dad is lying on the ground in order to get me and the whole building in the shot.

The Kennedy Space Center is on a Wildlife Reserve.  I’ll show pictures of that another day.  Also, they have a museum called the Astronauts Hall of Fame.  That was awesome, but I didn’t take too many pictures inside.
