Movie Reviews from Christmas Break

Movie Reviews from Christmas Break

Over the Christmas break I saw three different movies.  I do love the movies.  I actually even got to see one with my parents, which never happens because they don’t like going to movie theaters.  It was really nice.

One movie I saw, which was also my favorite, was Avatar.  I had heard that it was Fern Gully in 3-D, which it is.  But the thing is, I loved Fern Gully and I also loved Avatar.  We did go see it in 3-D.  I don’t much like the 3-D movie experience in general.  My eyes go crazy and I get terrible headaches.  It didn’t help that when we went to see this movie, I was having terrible issues with a tooth (which I will need a root canal on) and so I was in a lot of pain that night.  Despite all these distractions, I love, love, loved Avatar.  The animation was amazing.  I liked the characters.  I liked the story.  I almost cried. But there were parts that really reminded me of the Matrix – which is just fine with me because I love the Matrix.  I plan on seeing it again, but this time in 2-D.

My mom, best friend, and I went to see The Princess and the Frog.  It was exactly what I expected: a classical Disney cartoon.  It was, how do I say this, predictable.  Disney took the “princess” story template and plugged in the appropriate characters.  Now, I don’t want you to think that I didn’t like it, because I did really like it.  I loved that the music wasn’t “traditional” Disney style songs, but infused with Jazz.  I think it is good for the kiddos to be exposed to all types of music.

Another movie I saw, just before Christmas, was Did You Hear About the Morgans?  I was really looking forward to this movie, for several reasons.  First, I love Hugh Grant.  Second, I love Sarah Jessica Parker.  Third, I want to move to Wyoming, so any movie that has to do with that place is interesting to me.  Fourth, the idea of city slickers going to live in the country is always funny.  However, I was really disappointed in this film.  All the best parts are shown in the movie trailer.  Really – all the best parts.  It was much more sentimental than funny, sappy than ridiculous, and that just wasn’t what I was expecting.  I was expecting a comedy, more comedy than “fixing” of the relationship type of stuff.

So, that’s what I saw over the break.  Did you see anything good?
