Tripod Needed

One night, while in Downtown Salt Lake City, I wanted to go up to Ensign Peak and take some pictures of the valley.  Here is what I took:

Night Sky 001Oh, a little blurry – try again.

Night Sky 002Hmmm, still blurry.  Change some settings.

Night Sky 003Better, but. . .

Night Sky 004Whoa!  That’s BAD!

Night Sky 005Success!  But I want more.

Night Sky 006That’s a little fuzzy, but no where near the worst.

Night Sky 007Oh, pretty, but the bushes are a little big, don’t you think?

Night Sky 007Hmmmm

Night Sky 008Oh, here we go again with the blur.

Night Sky 009Okay, not too bad, but the lights don’t seem bright enough.

Night Sky 010Argh!  I’m really getting mad now!

Night Sky 011Now I’m screaming!

Night Sky 012Now, I’m crying.  Why can’t I get a good shot?

Night Sky 013And then it hits me . . . Aperture and Shutter Speed.

Night Sky 014To shoot at night, you aperture is wider and the shutter speed is slower in order to let in enough light.  That means I must hold very still – which I obviously can’t do!

Night Sky 005Out of 14 shots, only 5 were in focus, and I really didn’t like any of them.

So, I need a tripod.  And once I get one, I’m going up there again and doing it all over.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

A tripod is definitely handy – especially when you’re doing family photos!
